Global sportswear brand, Helly Hansen, has signed up-and-coming offshore racer, Nikki Curwen as a brand ambassador for 2015.
The news comes as 26 year old Nikki receives confirmation of entry into the Mini Transat 2015 race. The Mini Transat is a solo transatlantic yacht race, covering over 4000 miles in a 6.5m boat, with only paper charts and a basic GPS for navigation.
Limited to 84 places, entry into the Mini Transat is notoriously difficult. Nikki’s entry follows a year-long campaign which has seen her work tirelessly to complete the qualifying procedure of a 1000nm solo challenge and 1000nm of class mini races.
The race begins in Douarnenez, France on Saturday 19 September 2015. Over the coming months, Nikki will be working on her boat, planning campaign logistics and building up her sailing hours in time for the race, at her home town in Hampshire.
Helly Hansen will be supporting Nikki throughout her training and the Mini Transat, by providing her with the latest sailing and training kit, designed to keep her warm, dry and comfortable, whether on land or at sea. Based on true Scandinavian design values, the new collections feature durable, technical fabrics with a feminine fit and beautiful colourways to keep Nikki looking and feeling her best, no matter what Mother Nature throws at her.
Nikki comments, “It’s great to be working with Helly Hansen. The kit is performing amazingly well and the attention to detail is incredible. I’ve been training out on my boat in the cold and it’s so important to be able to keep warm in gear that still enables freedom of movement.”
Jacqueline Cheung, Marketing & Sales Project Manager at Helly Hansen says: “Nikki is a real inspiration. The Mini Transat race has started the careers of many influential sailors and we’re delighted to be able to support Nikki as she fulfils her own ambition of becoming a professional offshore racer.”
