This Sunday Lizzy and I will set off on our first race together. The course is 290 miles and once completed I will have officially finished my 2,000 miles required to enter the Mini Transat and join the waiting list for a place on the line in October.

We will start at 1300 in Lymington and head East out the Solent via Bembridge Ledge, from there we head to Wolfe Rock off Lands End via the Needles and Poole bay, finishing in Plymouth. It’s great to back on home waters and to bring the Mini back to the Solent.

The forecast is looking quite light at the moment – so all my drifting practise from the last race in Italy should come in great use! We will be up against 10 other Mini’s, of which just under half will be racing two handed and the rest Solo.

There is a great mix of entrants from complete beginners, some of which this will be their first race. Others have been racing Mini’s for a number of years now, and even completed the Mini Transat previously. There are four brits entered in the Mini Transat 2013 – all of which are racing this weekend. Pip Hare, Jake Jefferis, Luke Dampier and myself.

Once finished in Plymouth we have a couple days before the start of the UK Mini Fastnet, starting on 12th May 2013. Then it will be on to France for the MAP and French Fastnet.
